Difference
between Supplier & Subcontractor
Traditionally, the distinction
between a supplier and a subcontractor was that a supplier provided goods only,
whereas a subcontractor provided goods and services.
Suppliers were considered to be organizations
contracted to provide physical supplies such as goods, materials, plant, and so
on, either directly to the client or to the contractor or subcontractors.
Sub-contractors
are appointed by main contractors to carry out part of the works on their
behalf. As construction has become more complicated and more specialist
construction techniques have been developed, it has become increasingly common
for contractors to sub-contract others rather than employing a large workforce
themselves.
